Brazil flats The only line that is set very clearly is that of respect for the research staff and fellowcrew members. Paulo flores, a 36 year-old biologist who has been conducting tucuxi studies in florian�polis, santa catarina, brazil and alexandre azevedo, a 32 year-old biologist who has been studying ecological aspects of tucuxis in ba�a da guanabara, rio de janeiro, brazil. Work will be on average 3 days on boat, 1 day off (subject to weather). Boat-based observations will also be regarded to bioacoustics. In brazilian waters, they areprotected by a federal law (1743). They also will help inmeasuring and recording environmental variables (wind speed and direction, water temperature,water depth, bottom sediment, water transparency). Sections including research purposes, results gathered by each team, field work photographs, names and photographs of volunteers engaged in field work (if they allow), photographs of the earthwatch conference in boston, the aims of the earthwatch and a link to the earthwatch website. Two types ofsurveys are conducted, always without following a regular course: (A) focal-group sampling,when the same animals are observed and photographed until the end of the survey and (b)"random surveys," when the group is left once it is concluded that most individuals werephotographed and the survey is resumed.
