Well known worldwide for it's wines, Mendoza is a beautiful Province, situated at the foot of the Andes Range. It offers spectacular mountain views, such as the Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere and has excellent weather conditions. The experience here is not unlike Napa valley, however it is less developed and everyone focuses on the local Malbec wines, which is what made Mendoza now a hotspot for wines. So, you ask yourself, should I stay in town or on a vineyard? go for the vineyard, the exchange rate is good and the wines o’ plenty!
The Cavas Wine Lodge just 45 mins. from the airport is one of the most incredible bungalow/lodge experiences I have had in all my travels. If you are seeking a once in a lifetime experience and you are a foodie and wine person, this is our VIP top choice. There are many good bodega posadas in the area, such as Club Tapiz and Posada Salentein; both are great choices to enjoy a few days in the vineyards. We do love the Park Hyatt in the city of Mendoza because it has a casino and a great bar, however the experience staying on a small vineyard is our preference.
Another VIP Insider secret is our unique option for couples or a family of 4 is to stay at working winery called Bodega Vistalba, a enchantingly beautiful place, surrounded by vineyards bordered with old olive trees. It only has 2 rooms for friends of Carlos Pulenta, the father of the Malbec industry in Argentina. This is a real working winery, so don't be surprised if you are awaken at 7:00 am by deliver trucks and caretakers of the vines.
Touring gourmet restaurants in the area will keep you busy at night and having visits to surrounding bodegas will occupy your days. If you are seeking some nature, explore the local mountains by horseback, rafting, trekking and other outdoor activities, hey this is the Andes, and the highest peak in the hemisphere just outside your window, so pace yourself, the air gets thin up there. It is precisely these particular conditions, however, which make Mendoza the wine province par excellence, producing some of the best wines in the world.
A little historical background illustrates how this region, also the country's leading producer of first-class olive oil, tomatoes, fruits and nuts, has become something of a myth in the wine-growing world.
