Rio is the capital of Rio de Janeiro State. With beautiful beaches and mountains, Rio is considered one of the most marvelous cities all over the world. It has also famous tourist sites, as the Christ statue and the Sugar Loaf. For those who like partying, New Year's Eve celebration and Carnival are the best time, but Rio is good for tourism all year around. Summer goes from December to February, but you will find the best weather between March and May, when the sun shines all the time, without the terrible summer heat and the rain. The best beaches to visit, if you like people watching, are Ipanema, Copacabana and Leblon. The ocean water is cleaner from Barra da Tijuca on.
Close to Rio (by car)you'll find many places worth visiting; the beaches of Joá, Prainha and Grumari. Avoid the taxis close to the Bus Stations and to the airport Santos Dummont. If you are in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon, you can walk to most places during the day and catch taxis at night. Inside the city, the traffic is heavy and there is no place to park.

Thus another reason to take a guided tour... local knowledge is priceless in Rio. In 3-4 days you can see most of the tourist sites, including the Sugar Loaf and the Christ statue. In both places the view is beautiful, try to go on a sunny day. Flying into Rio is a beautiful sight, whether it be at night or during the day, the visitor quickly finds out why Rio is known as the Wonderful City.
It is also an important center for art and fashion. Works by Brazilian and international artists are featured in local galleries and museums.
