Paraty Private Island
A large private island swathed in tropical forest and with its own 400 meter-long sandy beach, this private island is the secret get-away of one of Brazil’s best known film directors. The main-house has commanding views in all directions – of the beach, out to sea, to the neighboring uninhabited islands and to the virgin hills of the mainland. It is the ideal get away or those wanting to disconnect from their everyday stresses and be pampered. The style of the house is modern –a contemporary take on a hacienda style of construction - with lots of light open spaces and glass-paneled roofs to allow make the most of the Tropical light and views. The landscape and trees form an integral part of the architecture, providing shade, filtering the harsh mid-day light and in parts trees are even incorporated into the architecture. It is an ideal beach house, with white painted bed and bathrooms, unfussy fittings and emphasis on the views and outside spaces rather than chic interior design.
The main house has a home cinema and mezzanine area where visiting masseurs can set up and the beach house has a barbecue and wet-bar set up for lunches or dinner in the shade of an almond tree on the sand and its own sound system. The Unesco-listed village of Paraty is 15 minutes away by boat and many exquisite deserted beaches, islands and beach restaurants can be reached in the same time using the speedboat that comes included. The island’s privileged location (it is one of the few islands along this stretch of coast which has a house on it – the others are all almost exclusively owned by renowned sports-stars, moguls and media personalities) means that it is private all year round; even when Angra gets crowded in the peak holiday season.
